It's just a marketing thing, but all the "Hawkeyes" ('06 and '07) were 300's. They were renamed "Sportsman" in '07 when the 400HO was introduced on that chassis. As far as I'm concerned, they're a great little unit and quite capable. If the tires on the one you're considering have been upgraded and you stick with a smaller plow as in the video provided above, it should do fine. There is a Polaris oil cooler kit for the 300 that's a good upgrade if you do hot weather riding. (Polaris erroneously says it will fit the 400HO as well, but it won't.) And, I agree the bike is clutched well for low speed use in spite of not having a low range. These mid-sized models were not the high volume sellers Polaris had hoped for, so they're orphans now and third party accessories are fading away. Notwithstanding this, I enjoy the two (400HO's) I have and will likely keep them until my riding days are done. - MarkC
Edit: Oh yeah. The price you mentioned sounds reasonable of it's in good condition as you say, with the bigger wheels/tires.
