So i first had a problem with one wheel not disengaging.... i took the hubs apart and cleaned lots of muddy junk out. neither hub had much fluid in them.

All cleaned, bearings all re-packed. I know that the book says to put in an ATF oil, but I could not see the harm in putting in a heavier oil to keep out some of the water and muck out and keep the system lubed. so I filled it with Lucas instead. I jacked up all four wheels and now both hubs are stuck engaged with no electric power going to the hubs. IE the awd switch is off or the machine is in reverse. What gives?

The issue i had a while back with no 4x4 turned out to be a harness disconnected. I just got the recalled ECM from Polaris, sitting here on the desk and needs to be put in, but I don't think its the problem. I am going to disconnect the harness again and see if my hubs are still engaged. Any chance the heavy oil is adding the resistance of the mag and causing the hub to engage? it seams the heavy oil should only make it harder to engage by increasing the amount of drag required on the cam basket. not the other way around. the heavy oil should keep the basket spinning with the hub. im confused. but believe me, I have independent breaks on my scrambler, the front hubs are turning under power in both fwd and rev. with the awd switch off. and no override button pressed....

What did you pack the bearings with? They need no packing, they are lubed by the Hub oil. Not sure the lucas was a good idea. The hillards are very picky about the fluid, use only Type F ATF fluid if you do not have the Polaris Demand Drive Fluid. I use the Polaris Fluid and most will agree that it is the best to use. How tight did you get the main nut? If to tight it will load the bearings too much and drag.
