hello, i have a 87 trailboss 250 4x4, the problem im having is when u go down the road the steering gets very, very tight and it pulls hard to the right, you cant drive it, i disconnected the front drive chain and it didnt change anything. im thinking there is somethiong worn in the hub but dont know how these hubs work, all i know is that being a older machine the 4 wheel drive is machanical not push button. when sitting still the steering is fine but the faster u go the tighter it gets and pulls. its older and i dont want to take it to shop anybody familiar with the hubs on these.

Well I would say your 4 by is engaging but taking off the chain would stop it.

My 87 4x4 does this but I solve it by backing up about 15 feet which disengages the front wheels.

I printed these off to re oil my hubs. It is actually atf fluid!

Here some pics of mine.

do you think that because the front tires are down to nothing and the rears have tread this could be making the 4 wheel stay engaged,i read on the info you gave me that you have to have same tire size on the front and rear or youll have problems with it engaging

possibly. I think you need to drain your hubs and just take a peak in there. I totally took mine apart and put them all back together with the same parts just to get an idea of how they work. As long as the garter spring isn't totally stretched, you should be good. Refill with fresh atf and you should be good. Mine only does it if my back tires actually spin, front engage and then wont disengage, but only sometimes. I back her up and good to go.
