Ordered a Shindy Carb Rebuild Kit #03-416 to put on the new-to-me Magnum. Long story short I am to the point of rebuilding or replacing the carb, rebuilding won out.
My research turned up this Kit and this is what I found...
"This Kit is listed by Shindy to fit the 1999-2000 Sportsman 500. Shindy does not have a kit specifically for the 425 Magnum, nor does anyone else that HPC is aware of. Although the carburetors are an identical BST34 Carb.
In our experiences as a repair shop, below we have listed the only differences we have found on this kit and have used this kit for the 425 Magnum Carb.
425 Magnum Main Jet = 140 or 142.5 depending on year. This Shindy Kit has a 155 Main Jet.
425 Magnum Pilot Jet = 40 or 42.5 depending on year. This Shindy Kit has a 40 Pilot Jet.
The larger main jet will slightly richen your fuel mixture to produce more power, and would be preferred if running an aftermarket high flow air filter or performance exhaust. Even if you re-use your stock 140 main jet with this kit it is a huge value when compared to trying to find a new or used carburetor, or buying the parts you need individually from your Polaris dealer."
1) Need some tips and tricks, what to avoid doing and best practices for rebuilding.
2) Keep original 140 Main Jet or stick in the 155 Main Jet? I ask because I have read that the Magnum runs "lean" from the factory...
Thanks again for all the help!
After the carb is done I will start a thread on a brake issue... have front but no rear brakes. Another thread for another day!
