Story: Plowed my driveway, parked in barn, no more start, just turns and turns. No spark, 0 resistance on stator. Replaced stator/coil from Rickey Stator.

Now, it turns and turns then backfires out the exhaust, runs a sec or two then dies. Try again, turns for about 20 secs then backfires out carb. Now it turns and turns and backfires, won't run at all.

I'm getting fuel and spark, am I out of timing, if so, how did that happen and how do I get it right?

I've searched the forum and came up with nothing.

HELP ME PLEASE before I stuff a hammer through something important!!!!:boggled:

Check your timing with a timing light. It is possible that it is still in time, but the exhaust cam lobe is worn off. We see this a lot with the older metal oil tanks. The metal tanks produces condensation and water gets in your oil. This causes the cam lobes to wear off. You could also take your rocker cover and rocker arms to visually check. If this is the problem, let me know, we have kits with everything you need in our store. ~Phil

Did you check for moisture or gap setting on the ETC(electronic throttle control)?gap setting 1/16"-1/8". No rust or water should be inside it. If so clean it with steel wool or fine sandpaper. If that don't help. Pm me and I will do more research. Thanks

The ETC is on the right handle bar. The thumb throttle assembly covers it. Remove the screws on the thumb throttle and you will see it. The air box has to be on the carb with no leaks or it will cause a backfire. I will give you more info later 2nite or 2moro morning. I have a service manual and I own 3 1995 425 4x4 magnums. So i should be able to point you in the right direction. Loosen the carb drain screw on the carb and make sure you don't have water in the fuel. I will try and help you all I can.

Thanks so much, it may be a little while before I get into it. I know thefuel is clean and no water, flushed and added a little drygas to fresh fuel, full tank.

My little Jack Russell, Aspen, was just killed in the road while I was working on my Toyota. I am heartbroken and can't concentrate right now.

Thanks again for all your help!!!

She's sitting on my Polaris in my avatar!! I already am missing her...it hurts.

I am sorry to hear about your dog. The black lab in my photo section got ran over about a month after the photos were taken. My son and I miss him very much he was only 1 1/2 yrs old.
Other things to check on your atv.
Lean condition with carb(float stuck,diaphram in top of carb,vent lines restricted),spark plug boot broken,bad ignition coil,kill switch or ignition switch faulty,timing(you checked already),sheared flywheel key, poor connections in ignition system,wiring wet,valve sticking,air leaks in intake.
I hope this information will help. Thanks

I'm sorry about the loss of your dog. Aspen is the first one I've had that didn't get to old age. Everything else made 16-17 years. Aspen was the one that shoulda gone longer.

All your help has been awesome, but it's getting past my mechanical abilities. I will have to take my time and go step by step. Your post is saved for me to keep coming back to. I will PM you with questions as I go.

Thanks!!!:hail::hail::hail:
