With no idiot lights showing, the first thing I would be checking is all the connections for water intrusion and loose connections. Not just on the rack itself, but both ends, haven’t had one with EPS, so not sure where they track to and from. Go to each connection, disconnect and look for moisture/corrosion and reconnect if none. If moisture or corrosion are seen then there is your culprit.
Check if there are any relays in the circuit for same issues. You could have a relay that is going out and once it gets some heat to it, is cutting out.

 

Lol and welcome!!!!!!!!! One of the issues over the years has been with the EPS relay. It's a little tricky to find but it's up top say above the radiator back toward under the pod. Other then that I would pop the EPS electrical connectors and verify good connections from all the pins. Also ensuring the battery is fully charged and holding a charge along with having the charging system operate as it should is paramount. In any event I'm sure the community will help you get some of these minor diagnostics worked through and hopefully that'll solve the issue!!!!

Morning y’all! After checking all of the obvious stuff, I’m still without steering. Even with it on Jack stands, I can barely turn the handlebars to the right or left. Because it’s under warranty I didn’t want to disassemble any further (or light it on fire, lol) so I’m just going to take it to the shop and pout about it. Thanks for the input and the welcomes, I’ll come back to let you know whenever I get it back in hopes of helping someone else in the future.

 

Definitely sounds like it needs a new EPS unit.
I wouldn't say anything about the washing thing as they may claim you blew water into it with high pressure so its not covered.
Just tell them it set a couple weeks and now won't hardly steer even when jacked up off the ground. That's all they need to know.

 

Since your saying with it off you can’t turn bars, I would think the gearing in the eps has failed.

 

Exactly @MrEd if the bars don't want to turn with it up on stands something is def outta wack. Since it's under warranty hopefully they can get it in and it's a quick turn around for you and you can get out there and rip!!!!

 

Update: dropped the bike off this morning. Mechanic tried to move the bars and said it was definitely whacked. They just called and said both the eps and steering post were accepted by warranty. Thank god I bought the platinum warranty. I have already fixed the key switch and the fan out of pocket (because I’m a brat who didn’t want to wait for someone to fix it 😋) This one would have been pretty pricey!! They now have to wait a day or two for adjuster to show up and approve and then they can tear it apart and order parts. Fingers crossed!!!

Hey y’all!! Got my bike back on Thursday! They replaced the eps box and the steering stem and bushing. Just got home from riding all weekend and it’s like brand new. Thank goodness I bought that extended warranty 🙂 Thanks for your help/advice

 

27 days not bad for turn-around time including shipping time.

 

An extended warranty is an insurance policy - once outside the factory warranty period, the insurance kicks in and an adjuster is summoned whenever there is a 'claim' - it's the adjusters job to determine if it failed naturally, from defective materials or abuse, they then determine if they pay or you pay. You are buying peace of mind and the dealer gets a percentage of the premium and they in turn pay him a discounted repair and the dealer makes zero on the parts. That's the trade off for selling the insurance and performing repairs under the contract.
