I am in need of a new battery for my '09 500HO and saw this battery at Menards. Anyone have any ideas if it is any good? I see it is a AGM which is suppose to be better than flooded batteries.

Also, I know this isn't the stock battery size but I have measured it and it will fit in battery compartment. I use the ATV for plowing snow and want a larger battery.

No idea, cost? Here's my inexpensive solution.

EverStart ES4LBS PowerSport Battery: EverStart ES4LBS PowerSport Battery: Auto Parts : Walmart.com

$26 at walmart. The battery works as described, comes with the 'acid', you put in yourself (very safe as designed), charges up in 2-3 hours and I've been using them for 3+ years. Woohoo! Luck!

I'm not a battery snob but I have now gone through 4 walmart Everstart car batteries and am done with them. The most recent lasted 6 months. All have failed under warranty. Four coincidences is two too many.

I gave up on cheap and went with Odysseys because I never want to push my quad home. They were $200. and they are twice the power, sealed and AGM. I can make more money, I can not buy back the time I loose because of the cheap quality of an inexpensive battery.

I ended up going with a AutoCraft battery from advance auto parts. I don't remember which one I got ( I bought it a year ago) but I got a battery about 50% larger in capacity than the one the Sportsman 500 comes with. I had to slightly modify the battery box but I got it in there.

So far it has performed great. I used it all last winter plowing and worked like a champ. I believe the larger capacity reduced the stress on the battery substantially.

Since your from MN, I'll recommend what I've had good luck with..... I've used both of the following with good luck, either an Interstate "Green Tops" from the local parts store or the ~$75 Road-Runner AGM (sealed & maintenance free) from Mill's Fleet Farm!! Then when the machines are not in use I hook them up to a $20-25 battery maintainer year round, that I also found at Fleet Farm also..... I think the key is finding a decent battery and pairing it with a battery maintainer!!!

Currently I have 1 AGM Raod-Runner on year #2 (2005 Sportsman 400) and two factory Polaris batteries.... 1 on year #3 (2012 Sportsman 800 - The winter plow machine) and the other on year #1 (2014 RZR). On average I'd say I get 4-5 years out of one of the above listed batteries.

Good Luck!

EDIT: As a "rule of thumb"..... I've stopped buying the cheap "just add water" (acid) type batteries from China-Mart's. As in our climate.... I've never had very good luck with them holding up much over a 12 month duration.
