It should have a sticker with the date of mfg. on the right side radiator guard.
You can also just LOOK at the tank and the fuel pump/sending unit connection. The difference is VERY obvious.

There's a bunch of them on ebay once you determine which you need.
However, many times you can just pull the unit out of the tank and it's simply that the clip that holds the float comes loose something easily fixed.

Ok got quad here and apart. dealer said sending unit was bad. well I took it apart and sending unit ohms out to what manual says. this is at the plug inside tank. when I check at the plug that connects at harness I don't get a reading. if I check each wire in harness to inside 3 pins everything is ok. its like one pin is not making contact, if sending unit ohms out can it still be the assembly.

I bet your sending unit float is saturated, was on my 2007, would not display the fuel level. The link below is for the new float I used to replace mine. I used a coat hanger to diagnose that it was the float that was issue. Use the coat hanger to lift the float arm to see if the fuel gauge would read, it takes a few seconds for it to start reading, this is because when the fuel is sloshing around while riding it doesn't keep fluctuating on the gauge.

Hope this helps.
