New to the forum so please take it easy on me. I recently aquired a 95 magnum 325 2x4. I had it running one time and nothing since. I have read all the no start posts and they all seem similar to my dilema. It had dead gas in it wich i feel that I got cleaned out pretty good, I did not open the carb. It cranks, has compression and spark and when I open the drain on the bottom of the carb gas comes out so I assume it has fuel. I have try chocking the inlet with my palm etc.. Someone did bypass the fuel pump and made it gravity feed. Was told locally that should be fine but I am not sure. Any and all help is greatly apprecieated.. Dave

if it had dead fuel it may be a good idea to tear apart the carb and give it a full cleaning

My Polaris dealer says that it is almost impossible to jump the timing on my Trail Boss.

If your Magnum 325 is like my Trail Boss 325, there is a gray box on the right handlebar, the throttle controller. Pop the top off of that...no screws, it just pushes straight up. Inside there are 2 electrical contacts. These contacts cannot be touching. Stick a piece of paper/wood/plastic between the contacts and see if it will fire. If they are touching, there is an adjustment in the cable. Adjust it until there is air between them. Their purpose is to shut the engine off if the cable breaks.

i know some1 who made a wheeler gravity fed, it never ran great though.

I always thought that if an engine had fuel, spark, and air you would at least have an engine that sounded like it would want to fire. I have been pulling my hair out and cant even get this thing to fire. for the life of me I cant figure out what the heck is going on. I am not really convinced that the spark is strong enough. yes it jumps around with the plug out and grounded but looks wimpy to me. I guess I would except any and all ideas. Just might be a pretty good looking parts bike on the market. Thanks, Dave

Have you tried even just a new plug? I know it sounds simple but sometimes it make a big difference. Is it flooding at all?

Still fighting with this quad. It is a 2x4 425 not a 325. Yes I pulled the carb and gave it a good once over and she is clean. Just cranks with no sign of even wanting to fire. noticed as I was cranking it over it appeared that it was actually spitting a haze of fuel out the air clearner side of the carb!! Help!! Dave

I have exactly the same problem, spitting fuel out the intake. Yesterday I noticed the warning label under the seat that says "Cranking the engine without the air cleaner will severely damage the engine." I put the cleaner back on and it did seem to make a difference, but it still won't start. I have been all over the range of the mixture screw with no help.

I also had fuel coming out the bottom of the carb. Changed the float needle and seat. Today I will change the oil and see what happens.

I hope you solve yours soon so I can try the same thing! ;-)

I got a Polaris "Oil Change Kit".
"Fits all Polaris full size single cylinder 4-cycle ATV's"
"Except Expedition & High performance Sport Models"

It contains:
2 quarts of Synthetic Premium4 Oil
1 original equipment oil filter
1 easy to follow instruction sheet

Recommended Oil Change:
Change every 50 hours of use or seasonally (whichever occurs first).

Is it still firing? Is compression good? Did you take the carb off and disassemble it removing the jets and run a small wire thru the passageways? Did you just buy this machine not running? Someone might have worked on it before and put wrong jets in it. As mentioned check the oil level and drain oil and change filter if needed? If no Polaris dealer nearby buy a filter (WIX part#51358,NAPA 1358, CARQUEST 85358) and 2 QTS of Mobil 1 0W-40 Synthetic oil. I would turn gas off. Spray a small amount of carb cleaner into the carb then try to start it to see if it will run. The battery needs to be fully charged so that you don't get a weak spark.
Answer a few of those questions and I will try to help you more.
Thanks

I read some more about your problem. I see you just got it and it is set up for gravity feed. The carb gets it's fuel by a vacum created by the engine that goes to the fuel pump and the diaphram in the top of the carb. More than likely nothing is wrong with the fuel pump. It might be dry rotten now thou.

Yes, I took a gamble and gave a hundred bucks for it. The guy I bought it from told me he hadnt really did anything to it but drive it to do chores. He took it in and had a new clutch and belt installed and claimed that after that it wouldnt start, he was in a pickle and had to sell. The gas was really stinky and I noticed the fuel pump had been bypassed but he claimed it ran fine. Also noticed when I pulled the side cover off to see what was wrong with the pull start the case had a hole toward the top and the thing had sat there with a fair amount of water in it although it was dry but rusty when I took the cover off. I did spray the carb all out and got her pretty clean. A budy and I checked the compression and it was well over 125. Yes the crank case is over full and I have tried more that once to fire it up by spraying carb cleaner in it threw the carb. Spark jumps good to ground but when grounded against the frame almost appears to weaken. Hope this helps. Thanks, keep the ideas comming. Dave

"The gas was really stinky" is a definite clue that it's bad gas. Mine smelled really bad. That will dirty up the carburetor and cause it to overflow into the crankcase. If you had gas dripping from the bottom of the carb, it's definitely a dirty carb.

Get new gas and NO ethanol...ever...from what I have learned. Minimum of 87 octane according to the owner's manual.

I firmly believe that having a senior moment and putting old gas with ethanol in it is what caused all of my problems.

In the "official" Polaris Oil Change Kit, the "1 easy to follow instruction sheet" turns out to say "Please reference your Owner's Safety and Maintenance manual for maintenance procedures and fluid capacities...."

The whole kit is a filter in it's little box and 2 quarts of oil just like you would find at CarQuest, just packed in a fancy box. It is "official" Polaris parts and oil though.

If water got in the recoil housing it is possible that the stator and flywheel are rusted. You might can remove the flywheel and clean the stator with sandpaper and electrical cleaner. The stator will cause a weak spark if rusty. I am working on a 425 that I put a new stator on and trying to get it to fire. I also have a good spare stator but I don't want to sell it right now but I will sell it once I get my 425 running. A new stator is $150.00 from rickystator.com

When you remove the recoil housing you will see the flywheel it will have to be removed with a flywheel puller. After removing the flywheel you will see the stator. It will be round with wire windings. I recomend you got to a site such as babbittsonline.com and look at a breakdown of a few parts diagrams to get familiar with it.
Thanks
