Adding Power Steering to an X2

Has anyone here ever successfully added EPS to an X2? I found an older thread from someone who bought the parts and then gave up on it. Buying another XP is out of the question as I love my X2. I've made a list of parts minus the complete harness for an xp with EPS. I bought a used harness off ebay and cut the EPS wiring out of it, and I plan on making an adapter harness like the EPS kits for the Rangers use. I haven't ordered the rest of the parts yet, but it totals about $1300. Does anyone know if the EPS unit needs to be flashed when installed? I just want someone to speak up if they know first hand it wont work so I don't end up with a pile of parts I cant use. Thanks for any info!!!

This is the list of parts, minus the harness and the miscellaneous nuts and bolts-

EPS assembly- Polaris Part # 2411799

Upper Steering post- Polaris part# 1823781-329

Lower Steering post- Polaris Part# 1823762

Bracket LH- Polaris Part# 5253166-329

Bracket RH- Polaris Part# 5253167-329

Can I at least get a pic of where the EPS Decals go on the factory installed EPS machines? Guess I'm in uncharted territory lol

Thanks, think im gonna put em on the side though cuase my windshield would over them up.From all the research I've done, this should work, ordered all the parts from Brad at mrcycles on thursday :D . Now just need to wait for everything to show up :)

I got the Harness made up, as I said, I cut the stuff I needed out of a 850XP harness I bought off ebay. I made a new connector to plug the EPS harness in where the Diagnostic connector was. I cut the diagnostic plug off and installed a plug that I had to mate with the one I put on the EPS harness. Eventually I'll make a tee harness that I can plug in between the factory harness and my EPS harness so the dealer can still plug into it if needed. Just waiting on parts now :)

This is the EPS harness I made

good luck, keep posting on how your getting along, i've been curious to see if someone could get it done. where theirs a will theirs a way! LOL! i wish polaris offered eps on the x2's or at least some sort of kit you could buy to add it on. i wanted an X2 but bought my touring for the soul reason of having the eps.
i talked to a guy that has pretty good inside knowledge about polarid atvs and he told me it only cost polaris about 200 to 250 bucks to put eps on a machine. but they're selling eps kits for rangers for 1300...geez!

Brad at mrcycles said I should see everything tomorrow. Hopefully will be able to play with it Saturday :)

I got it all apart!! Parts still haven't arrived though :/ I took apart every sensor and connector and added dielectric grease to all the connections, checked all the oil levels, greased it, added alot of extra zip ties to secure hoses and wiring. They pretty much build the bike around the EPS box lol.

I had to remove the front plastic, the seat, the pod, handlebars, fuel tank, right spring shock assembly, and the right wheel.

If you've never taken one of these part, it'll shock you how easy it is. Push pins and few bolts. Gas tank slides right out.

oh, that reminds me. I didn't see gas tank on your list. The EPS bikes run a 4.5gal tank. It is molded to allow the EPS motor clearance.

The XP's now have the eps unit rotated 90 degrees so the motor points into the right wheel well, so a different gas tank isn't needed.

These machines really do come apart and go together easy as butter. Once you start taking plastic off, you see how well engineered the machine really is.

Either way, just got home to a big box from MRCycles, I took it out to the garage, unpacked the EPS unit and plugged it in just hoping it would work and IT DID!!!! :D :D

Over the next couple of mornings before work I'll start going back together with it. It really makes me feel good the electronics side of things worked out as I could not get a straight answer out of anybody because nobody has tried this before. All it is now is bolting parts together :)

I have seen a few complaints about play where the steering box slides into the splines on the lower steering shaft, I drilled and tapped it for a set screw, so I don't ever have to worry about that problem.

Here is the Steering Unit itself, mounted to the bracket that turns it 90 degrees so teh motor points into the right wheel well instead of the fuel tank.

im pretty sure polaris released a limited edition 850 X2 EPS.....

either way, good job though!
looks nice and i agree, once you try a machine with eps you wont want to go back....

I got it all back together today and took it for a ride, EPS works great, and its awesome with the plow on. I had to adjust the tie rods to get the alignment correct, and it now drives just as straight it ever did, you really don't realize how awesome EPS is until you ride a machine that has it. I'm thrilled this worked out as good as it did, although I do have around $1400 into it!!! :O On the other hand, I'm pretty sure I have the only X2 with EPS in existence :D

Here is a pic of the EPS unit mounted in the machine from the left wheelwell

I cut the spacer between the frame and the battery to allow for the harness, and it fits nicely with out any sharp edges to chafe the harness.

Looks real good SeanE1987..........I've been waiting for Polaris to add EPS to the X2 also and now you have my attention on this thread. Have you tried riding your X2 with the power disconnected to the EPS unit to simulate a "power failure"?.........annnd what do you figure was the estimated shop time for Project EPS/X2........again, good job.....NoJoke

I would say 5-6 hours for an EPS install, Its actually really easy to install all the parts. The Wiring is the tough part because you either have to purchase an entire wiring harness or buy a used one and make an adapter harness like I did. Its hard to find people that work on atv's that are good with wiring like that. I do a ton of wiring repair, electrical diagnosis, and harness building at work, and have alot of know how on how automotive electrical works, I can go into a little more detail on the wiring if anyone is interested.

If I take the 30 amp EPS fuse out the EPS Malfunction light stays on and it steers like it did without EPS.

glad to see you got it installed and working good. now you just need to convince polaris to start making these things!

I've always thought that the X2 is the best 4-wheeler Polaris makes (i.e. Most versatile). The only argument from others about my opinion usually came down to: "no EPS on the X2".
Now you have an X2 with EPS. That is so cool! And I am so jealous.

Thanks to redneckron for digging this up!!!

The part # for the EPS harness for the RZR is 2411648. This harness makes EPS installation on any XP plug and play!!!. I was unable to get anyone to get me this part # when I installed mine in the early spring. The harness has a power and ground lead that go to the battery, and a connector that plugs into the diagnostic connector by the battery. It hooks directly to the EPS unit no splicing or wiring required!

Wow - I found this thread doing a google search for Sportsman power steering, and I hoped your X2 was the older non-XP chassis. I have a 2012 6x6 that I'm trying to research and build power steering for, but so far running into some issues. First I'm trying to see what other machines have my same ECU, then seeing if there was ever steering for them. They made it for the 2009-10 Rzrs, and they have my same ECU, but the handlebar/vs/steering wheel turn ratio would be off I assume. Great thread! Glad it worked out!

Ron- Yes, ATR quit making them because they had issues with the "brain" of their unit. You don't happen to have a part number for the older "smaller" gas tank they had to use, do you? And I assume you're referring to the pre-XP chassis? I think my 2012 value chassis is very similar.

After I made that statement, I realized the handlebar/steering wheel issue is irrelevant since that is determined in the steering gearbox, not the EPS unit, so space should be my only issue.
