I've always thought that the X2 is the best 4-wheeler Polaris makes (i.e. Most versatile). The only argument from others about my opinion usually came down to: "no EPS on the X2".
Now you have an X2 with EPS. That is so cool! And I am so jealous.

I would say 5-6 hours for an EPS install, Its actually really easy to install all the parts. The Wiring is the tough part because you either have to purchase an entire wiring harness or buy a used one and make an adapter harness like I did. Its hard to find people that work on atv's that are good with wiring like that. I do a ton of wiring repair, electrical diagnosis, and harness building at work, and have alot of know how on how automotive electrical works, I can go into a little more detail on the wiring if anyone is interested.

If I take the 30 amp EPS fuse out the EPS Malfunction light stays on and it steers like it did without EPS.
glad to see you got it installed and working good. now you just need to convince polaris to start making these things!

Thanks to redneckron for digging this up!!!

The part # for the EPS harness for the RZR is 2411648. This harness makes EPS installation on any XP plug and play!!!. I was unable to get anyone to get me this part # when I installed mine in the early spring. The harness has a power and ground lead that go to the battery, and a connector that plugs into the diagnostic connector by the battery. It hooks directly to the EPS unit no splicing or wiring required!

Wow - I found this thread doing a google search for Sportsman power steering, and I hoped your X2 was the older non-XP chassis. I have a 2012 6x6 that I'm trying to research and build power steering for, but so far running into some issues. First I'm trying to see what other machines have my same ECU, then seeing if there was ever steering for them. They made it for the 2009-10 Rzrs, and they have my same ECU, but the handlebar/vs/steering wheel turn ratio would be off I assume. Great thread! Glad it worked out!

chevrltz, I have the newer chasis design. 2010 and older polaris atvs with power steering had to use a small gas tank. Polaris fixed those issues. A company called ATR made power steering for the older model Polaris sportsman frame design but they stopped making it for some reason.

Ron- Yes, ATR quit making them because they had issues with the "brain" of their unit. You don't happen to have a part number for the older "smaller" gas tank they had to use, do you? And I assume you're referring to the pre-XP chassis? I think my 2012 value chassis is very similar.

After I made that statement, I realized the handlebar/steering wheel issue is irrelevant since that is determined in the steering gearbox, not the EPS unit, so space should be my only issue.

I am not familiar with your type of unit and I guess I didn't make myself clear-the 2010 or older atv that could come with eps had a small gas tank do the way the EPS unit faced underneath. Polaris changed the way EPS unit sit underneath and now hold the bigger gas tanks 2011 modelsor older that could come with EPS.

Sean - it doesn't appear that there is an exhaust pipe any where near your EPS unit since your XP engine is transverse compared to the "value" Sportsman. Any guesses on if heat (180 degrees I'm guessing) would damage the EPS unit?

This is the location where I'm considering adding the 09 Rzr EPS unit to my Sportsman:

Thanks! I'm really not trying to hijack this thread - you're just such a wealth of knowledge since you pioneered this.

I don't think the EPS unit could take the extra heat, the owners manual states that the EPS unit must be kept clean of mud to prevent overheating, that being said, My EPS unit never gets very hot to the touch. Heat is never good for anything electronic. The EPS unit also needs to be hooked to the datalink to get the vehicle speed signal and to broadcast fault data. Its gonna take quite a bit of fabrication to the get the EPS unit in there too.

I'm doing pretty much what you did. I got a power steering unit, used but with a warranty. Bought a newer eps harness off ebay, ordered the steering shafts needed to work. etc. Did you have to program the computer to see the power steering or is it just plug and play???? Did you use factory relays or you own relays??

update on my own. I ordered a EPS harness off ebay. Got delivered today from Idaho cycle. Yaaaaa, sent me a non eps harness. Shite. Well, now I'm gonna order that rzr eps harness to make plug and play.

SoI actually came across a eps harness locally by fluke. Bought it and took what I needed. My order from power sports plus was automatically cancelled when the wait for the rzr harness hit a month. Oh well, good thing for that used harness. Cut out what I needed and finally wired it in. My eps is working great at this point. The only problem I have is the tank is hitting the eps unit. I updated to the 2010 and newer bracketry which aims the unit out the side. The gas tank still rubs by about a 1/2". Not sure if tanks are different for the newer quads that have releifs for the steering sideways. The next thing I did to upgrade is rzr spindles. Got 4 new ball joints and hub bearings and the rzr spindles. They fit perfect...but.....the brakes required me to fab a bracket and shorten the tie rods. seems to be working so far, haven't really rode it yet, still waiting for next order of urethane bushing for suspension to come in. I'll update again soon.
