I don't know if it is the dame on your vehicle but this is what I'd for my Scrambler 500.

 

I have a 95 scrambler 400 4x4. Wondering if this work for mine too? Did the bushing close all the way around the steering rod?

Hot Seat performance makes a sick lower bushing kit that i have in my 98 Scrammy that hasn't worn in 7 yrs. Maybe the same design??? Check them out as well. Will have to grind old bushing rivet heads off with a 90 degree die grinder.

First of all seems like a waste of time an money to buy the Energy suspension swaybar bushings and mounts.

If you want to grease the upper steering stem pushing drill and tap the mount for a zerk.

But in my experience it's a waste as the bushing gets cruded up and wears just the same. I didn't notice any difference when I did the zerk mod.

 

I'm mainly looking for something to snug the steering post up some.. I've replaced the bushings and there is still some slop in the handle bars.

 

I did look at it. The handlebars have play back and forth. It looks like it's wiggling in the upper bushing. The upper bushing is brand new so I'm not understanding why the post isn't more snug.

 

Steering stem is most likely worn as its 26yrs old. Then again as I learned early on these machines are always going to have a bit of play.

 

I am actually going to replace the steering stem. Might just get a new upper bushing while I'm at it.
