I’m curious as to how or what can be done to upgrade this tow hitch to 2inch or is it worth the trouble.

Here is the mod I did on my 2019 850SP....... I use the 1 1/4" factory receiver, purchased some 1 1/4" square tubing, made a riser, as I wanted the 2" receiver much higher for my hitch haul, and I use a clamp to secure it to the rear factory tube bumper. It is rock solid when installed and clamped. I made a wood pattern, as you can see the bottom OEM receiver is at an upward angle and I wanted the 2" receiver level. It can be installed and removed in under 2 minutes.

I still have the wood pattern......... I had zip tied the 2" receiver to the top of the riser legs where the 2 holes in the wood are as my pattern to weld it up. With the angle the lower OEM receiver is at the riser height is very critical as it rises as its pulled out of the lower receiver.

That location of the 2" receiver gives me many options with different accessories........... Hitch Hall, spare tire carrier, extra gas can carrier ect......

The strap holding up the adapter in the first 2 pictures was temporary during the engineering process.... until I installed the final clamp system with the two 3/8" J bolts.... I have since trimmed the length of the J bolts to be flush with the bottom of the bracket.

STRONG, I pulled a non running ATV up a very steep hill last weekend (with witnesses that are on this forum) and the tow strap was attached to my ATV between the two riser bars.......
I will tell you it may be the strongest part of the frame.... I had a 240# neighbor sit in the hitch hall and it didn't move, just the rear of the ATV went down with his weight.

Here is a picture of it from last weekend with a lot of mud weight on it..... I used it to hold the trail marker sticks when setting up our trail last weekend... Then it started to rain as the ride started and I left it on and it collected the mud.

STRONG

Curious as to why you want to upgrade? Ive used my stock receiver and KFI Tiger Tail to tow some RZR 1000XP's (+-1500#) out of some pretty serious mud and never had an issue.

It's about all the options available. Most of the add on receiver options are only available in the 2" size. I agree the standard 1 1/4" receiver will support pulling if needed, but its way to low and most accessories will bottom out if used on off road trails. I engineered my set up for my needs and agree everyone's needs are different. I purchased a 3' piece of 1 1/4" tube from Speedy Metals, a 2" receiver from Menards, have a welder, and have less than $30 in what works for my needs.

I ice fish on Lake Michigan and Lake Erie and have front and rear hitch hauls that support flotation barrels. They install in seconds via a 5/8" hitch pin. Here is a picture of my 2006 800 how I set it up. Also a picture of the new front bumper with a 2" receiver John from ATV-GURU.com made me for my new 2019 850 SP so I can reuse the flotation setup.

Again its what works for my individual needs. Yours may be different!
